Listed in chronogical order are the major events leading up to and encompassing the Nautilid Conflict.
1980's - Scientists start to issue warnings about
atmospheric pollution and the possible impacts on global climatic
conditions.
2009 - World leaders fail to reach agreement on reducing atmospheric pollution, which continues to rise; Previously issued predictions about climatic changes start to prove correct. 2022 - The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio telescope discovers a potentially habitable planet near the star 'Gliese 581', approximately 20.3 light years from Earth; Several other planets are discovered in nearby systems over the next few years. 2049 - A technique that allows vessels to travel through space at 80% of the speed of light is discovered and proven; A program to use unmanned probes to explore the galaxy begins, focusing on a cluster of potentially habitable worlds near 'Gliese 581' 2075 - After a several years of extreme droughts and flooding, global food supplies are insufficient to meet demand; deaths from famine start to rise significantly on all continents. 2095 - Global population drops to under a billion human beings, as famine and water shortages continue to cause deaths; 75% of the land surface of Earth is declared either hostile to human habitation or completely uninhabitable. 2096 - World leaders agree on a program to resettle on another planet; Construction of a fleet of 86 massive self-sustaining 'bio-transport' vessels, along with various support craft, begins. 2105 - Construction of the convey - capable of carrying just under 1 million people - is completed; Various selection criteria to resettle are announced; Riots ensue amongst those not selected when it's revealed that government and business elite get preferential treatment. 2106 - The convey, in which most of the population travel in 'stasis', leaves Earth; Approximately 100 million people are left behind. 2132 - The convey arrives at 'Gliese 581'; A planet hoped to be habitable is found not to be; Another planet in a nearby solar system is chosen and the convey starts a new leg in it's journey. 2155 - After visiting several systems, the convey arrives at a suitable planet which is given the name 'Novus', meaning 'new'; A number of independant settlements are established on the planet surface and food production begins; Several hostile indigenous animals cause a number of casualties - these are quickly exterminated. 2156 - Each of the settlements selects it's own local government; The Alliance Council is formed to govern at the planetary level. 2157 - On an expedition in a jungle region near the Novus equator, a scientific team discovers a new lifeform vaguely reminiscent of an Earth jellyfish resting in a shallow pool - when disturbed it takes flight, and remarkably, breaks orbit and leaves the planet; A search of nearby solar systems fails to locate any other lifeforms; Safety concerns result in the construction of weapons factories and ship building yards by the Alliance Council. 2159 - A massive swarm of alien beings dubbed 'Nautilids' attack Novus; Several colonies are completely destroyed; The Alliance Council's spaced-based Navy is almost completely destroyed as the Nautilids take complete control of the space surrounding Novus. 2160 - The events of Star Hammer Tactics transpire. 2161 - A new push by the Nautilids to control the surface of Novus begins, resulting in a crisis and grave threat to the surival of the general population. 2163 - The 'Sneak' class vessels, using a new form of stealth technology, are unveilled and spearhead a new offensive against the Nautilids (the events of Star Hammer: Survival). |
